Can anyone tell me where I can get the minimal and complete root file
systems from. I've tried from :

ftp://linuxppc.cs.nmt.edu/pub/linuxppc/embedded/

but the "linuxppc" directory seems to have vanished

I've also tried :

http://www.ppc.kernel.org/pub/linuxppc/embedded/

but the machine is non-existent.
